Madagascar

Madagascar an island country comprising the island of Madagascar and numerous smaller peripheral islands. It is the world’s fourth largest island, the second-largest island country and the 46th largest country in the world. Situated off the southeast coast of Africa, the island nation is famed for its unique wildlife.

Madagascar has a population of nearly 29 million, with Antananarivo as its capital. The Malagasy language, an Austronesian tongue related to those in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, is widely spoken alongside French.

Ivato Airport serves as the main hub for domestic and international flights. The island features diverse landscapes, including lush rainforests, dry deserts, and grassy plains, all surrounded by coral reefs and mangrove forests. About 90% of Madagascar’s plants and animals are unique to the island, including half of the world’s 150 chameleon species and over 800 butterfly species.

Madagascar is renowned for its lemurs, the oldest living primates, with more than 100 species. The iconic baobab trees, known as the “tree of life,” can grow up to 30 meters tall and live over 1,000 years.
