AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK

________

Akagera National Park is Central and East Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last remaining savannah-adapted species in Rwanda. It is also home to all the ‘Big Five’ in Rwanda and many other species. The north of Akagera is mostly fairly low-lying grasslands and savannah plains giving a similar feel to the ‘traditional’ safari areas of East Africa.

Akagera National Park contains significant populations of buffalo, zebra, impala, baboons, warthogs, lions, and hippopotamuses. Rare species, such as the giant pangolin (an anteater), are also found in this Park.
